From the outset of the Shelter Harbor Conservation Society (SHCS), we were deemed the “Guardians of the Shoreline” as evidenced by a local article highlighting the early efforts of Joe Picano, Meredith Platt, and Mike Van Vranken.
Dating back to the 1970’s, SHCS has been focused on influences that impact the health of Quonochontaug Pond, “Quonny” for short. The initial focus for SHCS was to influence local municipalities, partner with like-minded organizations, and educate local homeowner’s on how their actions impact the local water quality.
Over the years, SHCS has #protected many acres in Shelter Harbor from further real estate development which includes acres for the Finn Casperson ‘Forest Trails.’ Currently, we are working to prevent #BEECH TREE DEVASTATION in the Forest.
